In the mid-1970s and early 1980s, the creative explosion in the Twin Cities' thriving rock and roll scenes expanded the state's cultural identity far beyond the shores of Lake Wobegone. Starting with Paisley Park's 1986 donation of a Prince costume from "Purple Rain", the Minnesota Historical Society has worked with artists and the music industry to help collect and preserve the objects, business papers and ephemera that document the many facets of the musician's life and work.
