Description: Petticoat worn by Kate Stover at the first presidential inauguration of Abraham Lincoln on March 1, 1861. The petticoat is of white cotton decorated with Broderie Anglaise (eyelet) embroidery. The petticoat has a waistband with a button and buttonhold closure at its center back. The back breadth and front panel are gathered into the waistband and slightly gathered at the front and sides. A horizontal tuck on the back breadth above the embroidery masks the seam that attaches the embroidery.
