Description: A mixed lace doily made with linen thread, possibly Dakota or Ojibwe, circa the late 19th century to the early 20th century. The doily has a square linen center with hem-stitched edges, with a mixed lace edging consisting of tape work in a maple leaf motif joined by needle made spiders and mesh fillings. Collected by Bishop Henry Benjamin Whipple.

  • Not earlier than 1890 - Approximately 1926 (Sybil Carter began developing the Episcopal Church lace manufacturing work with American Indians in Minnesota in 1890. The lace program continued well after Carter’s death in 1908 and eventually dissolved in 1926.) (Creation)
