Titles: Dakota ring and pin game (Supplied title)

Description: A Dakota ring and pin game, circa the mid-19th century. This game of dexterity is similar to the cup-and-ball principle and consists of three main parts. At one end is a long metal pin with a point on one end and a hook on the other. Connected to the eye of the pin is a thin leather thong, on which is strung four pierced deer toe bone targets. At the end of the thong are two target loops of white glass seed beads. The game is played by holding the pin end, swinging the other end up, and attempting to catch a target on the pin. The game was collected by Colonel John G. Clark of the 50th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry Regiment at Fort Rice in Dakota Territory during the US-Dakota War.
