Description: Dakota hide sword case with a drawstring top collected by Colonel John G. Clark of the 50th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry Regiment at Fort Rice in Dakota Territory during the US-Dakota War. Circa mid-19th century in manufacture. The case is sewn with sinew. The lower part of the case has floral pattern beadwork and stars. The fringe at the bottom of the case and the bottom of the hilt is wrapped in red, white and blue quill. The top center has a beaded design of an American eagle over a shield with crossed American flags and surrounded by red and blue stars.
