Description: A leather beaded tobacco pouch used by the Lakota, but possibly Plateau or from another Plains group in origin, circa the mid-19th century. The exterior is beaded in a square pattern of rose, blue and gold glass seed beads. The fringe on the bottom is wrapped with dyed quill. Hide thongs are attached for securing the pouch to the wearer's belt and for closing the pouch. The pouch was collected by Colonel John G. Clark of the 50th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry Regiment at Fort Rice in Dakota Territory during the US-Dakota War.
