Titles: Dakota pipe bag (Supplied title)
Description: A long Dakota tobacco pouch with linear rolled bead trim on the top edge and along one side, circa the early 1860s. The leather is plain for several inches below the rim. A three inch wide band of beadwork located below the plain leather on one side.The other side has a band of dyed quillwork in a scalloped pattern of red, yellow and blue. Sewn below these bands is a section of vertical split hide strips wrapped with dyed quillwork to form a central diamond pattern. The bottom has a strip of 20 inch long leather fringe with metal jingle cones attached. A quill wrapped thong closure is sewn to the top. The pouch was collected by Col. John G. Clark while stationed at Fort Rice, Dakota Territory.
