Description: A Lakota pipe bowl carved out of red pipestone (catlinite) into the shape of a man's head, with faces carved on the front and back of the bowl portion, circa the mid- to late 19th century. Its prow is pierced and has a leather thong attached. Reportedly purchased from a wife of the Lakota Chief Sitting Bull at Mandan, North Dakota in 1888.
