Titles: Dakota parfleche envelope (Supplied title)
Description: A Dakota envelope-shaped container made of parfleche has a zigzag edge flap secured by thongs and two side seams sewn with leather strips, circa the early 20th century. A painted geometric pattern in red, yellow, blue and green decorates the two sides; the pattern is different on each side. The box was given to Frances Densmore by the wife of Red Fox upon Densmore's adoption by him. Red Fox was a Dakota Chief living on the Standing Rock Indian Reservation, North Dakota and South Dakota.
