Description: Beaded leather pouch made by Dakota Indians living in the vicinity of Birch Coulee, Minnesota, circa the early 20th century. It was made for Protestant Episcopal Church bishop Frank Arthur McElwain on the occasion of his visit to the Birch Coulee Mission, later renamed the Bishop Whipple Mission. McElwain used the pouch to collect special needs offerings from his parishioners.
