Description: A rectangular Dakota leather tobacco pouch or pipe bag, circa the late 19th century. The bag's lower two-thirds, on both sides, are covered with lane-stitched geometric beadwork using sinew and arranged on a white bead background. The upper seams and top edge are also beaded. The blank leather area is dyed red and decorated with six pairs of metal cones terminating in dyed feathers. Also attached are two long leather strips wrapped with dyed red and white quillwork and four metal and feather cones. A long fringe at the bottom of the bag features vertical rawhide strands wrapped with dyed red, purple and white quills.
