Description: A Dakota eagle feather headdress consting of more than a dozen eagle feathers secured to a buckskin cap in a circlet, circa the late 19th century. Each feather has a rawhide loop folded over the bottom of its quill end covered by strips of green wool (est). The feathers are attached to the cap with a rawhide lace passing through both the loops and the cap itself in large stitches. A leather thong runs through the center of the shaft of each feather in the circlet. The cap's browband is decorated with a glass seed bead panel consisting of blue triangles on a white bead background. Additional feathers (non-eagle, possibly turkey) hang from pairs of beaded bundles on either end of the browband. Small, dyed, downy feathers are included in each hanging bundle.
