Description: A Dakota leather belt pouch, circa 1840. A slot opening at the top of the fold provides access to either half. One face of the pouch is decorated with dyed quillwork arranged in a geometric pattern; the other face shows the remains of a quilled X shape. The pouch's short edges are bound with leather thongs; its long edges are beaded. The bag intended to be folded over the wearer's belt. Collected by Colonel Henry L. Carver, during Henry Sibley's 1863 Dakota expedition.
