Description: A Dakota Indian deer hoof rattle, circa 1862 or earlier. The rattle consists of a wooden handle wrapped with leather thongs tied to deer hooves through holes drilled through each hoof piece. The rattle was picked up by Willoby Vaughn after a battle during the 1862 U.S.-Dakota War.
