Titles: Dakota pipestone paper knife (Supplied title)

Description: A Dakota carved pipestone/catlinite paper knife with incised designs, circa 1910. The handle is in the form of a fish (probably from the pike family) with incised lines on each side indicating the mouth, eyes, gills, and fins. The blade has a sharply beveled blade edge with a clipped point. Each side of the blade has a highly stylized foliate design. The speckled pipestone has a natural color variation and represents hues from orange to red to brown. There is a cylindrical hole in one end of each piece that was originally used to connect the two.
