Description: A Dakota trade-type tomahawk pipe bowl and stem, circa the mid-19th century. The bowl is made of steel or iron; the carved, tapered wood stem (probably oak or hickory) retains the odors of tobacco use. Given to Henry H. Sibley by a Dakota Indian.
