Description: A Dakota beaded leather tobacco pouch with long leather fringe attached at the bottom, circa the 1850s. The bag is composed of a long leather rectangular pouch with a beaded lip and side, a beaded panel with three diagonal lines in pink/green/white, green/black/yellow, and pink/green/white on a blue background, quill wrapped fringe in yellow, green and red, and long free flowing leather fringe at the bottom. The bag was collected by Chesley Billing Tirrell of the First Minnesota Regiment, Company C, possibly during the U.S.-Dakota War of 1862.
