Titles: Platter or vegetable dish (Supplied title)
Description: Oblong, single edge grooved platter. On the underside in black under glaze is the trademark: "ROYAL PATENT IRONSTONE [A British royal crest with a crown on top, between a lion and a unicorn, reading in Anglo-Norman: "HO NI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE", which is the motto of the Order of the Garter, and translates to "shame on him who thinks evil of it"] / ARTHUR J. WILKINSON / LATE R. ALCOCK / BURSLEM, ENGLAND.". The platter was reportedly used, along with a matching covered bowl and ladle, by the donor's grandmother to serve soup to Confederate soldiers during the Civil War. Compared to the other parts of this set, this platter appears slightly stained overall, as if it was left in dirty water for an extended period of time. For other pieces from set, see ID Numbers 9512.2 and 9512.3.
