Titles: Dakota pipestone buffalo paperweight (Supplied title)
Description: A Dakota made paperweight with the image of a bison carved in full relief on an integral, rectangular plinth, circa the late 19th to early 20th century. The bison is in standing position and has incised texturing on its front half intended to resemble hair. The plinth's four upper corners are beveled; its upper surface has a textured border, connecting a quarter-circle of textured area radiating from each corner. A printed paper label glued along the lower left side reads, 'CHARLES H. BENNETT, Pharmacist / PIPESTONE CITY, MINN." To this label has been added, in longhand, "STANDING BUFFALO / Carved from Pipe Stone - by only / Dakota Indian who ever does / this kind of work - Largest and finest ever/made - / Very Rare."
