Description: A Dakota wood pipe stem that is tapered at either end to accommodate a pipe bowl and serve as a mouthpiece, circa 1900. The mouthpiece is very smooth and has a metal band wrapped around it. Small cross-hatching marks are incised into the remainder of the wood of the stem except for two smooth bands, three inches and four and three quarter inches from the mouthpiece. Collected at the Cheyenne River Reservation, South Dakota.
