Description: A deer hoof rattle, possibly Dakota, circa the mid-20th century or earlier. The rattle is composed of a worked wooden stick with a smooth shaft, the head of bird at the top, and a pointed tip at the base. A strip of leather tied to the shaft supports five rows of carved deer hooves (est.) attached by leather thongs.
