Titles: Pipestone and wood cane (Supplied title)

Description: A cane carved out of wood and red pipestone (catlinite), possibly Dakota, circa the late 19th century. The pipestone head is carved into the shape of a dog's head in full relief, with the neck forming a square-section socket with chamfered edges. The ferrule is a tapering octagon with a short cylindrical section at the socket. A snake carved in a clockwise spiral winds around the shaft. Three truncated branches are also carved into the shaft.
