Description: Ermine shoulder tippet with long lappets lined in quilted pink silk. Crocheted button closure at neck. Decorate silk cords at the neck end in braided and fringed tassels. Matching barrel-shaped ermine muff with pink silk lining. Made from ermine pelts collected by Indian traders for the American Fur Company. Agent Henry Sibley sent them to his sister, Sarah Alexandrine. She had this ensemble created by an unknown furrier for an 1840 visit to Washington D. C. with her father, Michigan Supreme Court Justice, Solomon Sibley.
