Description: Two fragments of a wood flag staff that stood at Andersonville, a Georgia military prison, during the Civil War. Andersonville became notorious after the war for its poor treatment of prisoners and as the site of the deaths of approximately 13,000 Union men from starvation, disease and abuse. The flag pole fragments were collected by Levi Longfellow in 1916.
