Description: Pair of hobnailed French shoes worn by Ezra Benham Curry of Saint Paul, Minnesota, while serving in the Norton-Harjes Volunteer Motor Ambulance Corps in France, 1917. The shoes are made of "rough-out" leather over a steel shell that covers the foot from the toes to the instep. The heel area is stiffened with a leather reinforcement. The soles and heels are leather and studded with iron nails. Each shoe laces with six pairs of lace eyes.
