Description: Pair of United States Army officer's epaulettes contained in a black japanned tin case with a hinged lid. The epaulettes were apparently converted for post-Civil War use in the 22nd United States Infantry by Javan B. Irvine, who enlisted with the 1st Minnesota Regiment during the Civil War and also served with the 13th United States Infantry.
