Westminster Chinese Sunday School hymnal
Hymnal with "Property of Westminster Chinese Sunday School / Minneapolis" stamped inside the cover. Westminster Presbyterian Church in Minneapolis was an important institution for many Chinese immigrants in Minneapolis. Westminster began teaching English lessons to Chinese men in 1882; women in 1920. Most other civic organizations did not accept Chinese Americans until the 1930s or 1940s. The hymnal has an indigo canvas cover and side stab sewn (oriental) binding. On the front cover are remnants of a paper label with Chinese characters. The hymn texts are in Chinese.
