John Lind 1896 gubernatorial campaign ribbon. The ribbon commemorates a picnic hosted by the Peoples' Party in Spicer, Minnesota, on September 17, 1896 in support of Lind's bid for Governor. Lind's 1896 campaign as a Democrat endorsed by Populists failed, but two years later he was elected Governor of Minnesota, the first Democrat to hold in that office in forty years. |
