Description: A Dakota dog paperweight carved from red pipestone, circa the late 19th to early 20th century. The dog is carved with its head and tail up as though alert, and rests on a rectangular plinth with scallop shaped incised markings. Incised marks indicate paws, eyes, a mouth and nostrils. A card affixed to the bottom of the carving's base reads, "Pug dog / Carved from pipestone by only Dakota Indian who does this kind of work - / (very rare) / Charles H.
