Description: John Lind 1898 gubernatorial campaign button. On the laminated button Lind is depicted wearing a military uniform in front of United States and Cuban flags, a reference to his service in the Spanish-American War. Made by the Whitehead & Hoag Company in Newark, New Jersey. Lind campaigned as a Democrat endorsed by Populists and was elected Governor of Minnesota in 1898, the first Democrat to hold in that office in forty years.
