Description: BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION: Jack Ruttger owned and ran Ruttger's Bay Lake Lodge in Deerwood, Minnesota at the time of the interview. He was the son of Alec and Myrtle Ruttger and grandson of Joe and Josie Ruttger, founders of Ruttger's Bay Lake Lodge. The business had been in the family for three generations and was continuing for a fourth with son Christopher. At one time, each of the four sons of Bay Lake Lodge founders Joe and Josie Ruttger operated one or more independent resorts in Minnesota and Florida. SUBJECTS DISCUSSED: Mr. Ruttger tells how his family became involved in the resort business, how all four of his grandparents' sons became resort owners at the same time, at different locations in Minnesota. He discusses past promotional strategies of the resort, the running of a resort during the war years of World War II and the changes in the resort from when his father ran it to now when he is in charge of the operations. COMMENTS ON INTERVIEW: Video interview includes indoor and outdoor shots of the resort. Also available is a 5 minute videotape produced for the 100th anniversary of Bay Lake Lodge featuring excerpts from this interview entitled "A Conversation With Jack Ruttger".
