Titles: African Bumbrby hat (Supplied title)
Description: "Bumbrby" hat designed by Betty Comer of Washington, D.C. and purchased at the 1992 Juneteenth celebration in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Juneteenth holiday commemorates the abolition of slavery in the United States as announced on June 19, 1865 in Galveston, Texas. The hat is made of African glazed cotton fabric stretched along a wire to form a wide, sweeping brim. The cotton is printed with representations of a crown, dove, lamb, spear, and open book.
