Minnesota Pioneer Guard cartridge box
Description Cartridge box used by the Minnesota Pioneer Guard. The tanned leather box contains a single tin liner and attaches to a white cotton strap. The brass letters 'MPG' are applied to its front flap. Flap with inked inscription on underside 'Minnesota Pioneer Guard / Cartridge Box, / Organized 1855. / First Military Organization / Minn. Territory / Wm. A. Van Slyke' (sic). See accession file for probable maker identification as D. Devlin & Co., N.Y, N.Y.
