Dakota painted parfleche envelope bag
A Dakota painted parfleche envelope, circa 1900. The envelope's irregular sides are folded in half lengthwise with small holes along the edge. Its opposite ends are folded in on top of them to form a rectangular envelope. Hide thongs and more small holes along these edges are used for tying the container together. Its outside has a painted geometric decoration in shades of blue, red, green and yellow, outlined in green.
