Beaded birchbark container

Beaded birchbark container

Titles: Beaded birchbark container (Supplied title)

Description: This round birchbark container has a round base and a slightly smaller round mouth with slanting sides made from two pieces of birchbark. The container is sewn together at the edges using single rows of basswood strip stitches. The rim and base are reinforced with a wood strip sewn on with basswood fiber, as well as a decorative scalloped strip of birchbark. Sewn to the exterior are four birchbark cutouts of men wearing Plains Indian style headdresses. Each cutout is beaded with glass seed beads and sewn with tan thread. This object is likely Ojibwe in origin.
