Description: Needlework sampler worked in black thread on a rectangular brown plain weave ground. Four different alphabets and one set of the numbers 1 through 9 are stitched across eight rows, followed by “Harriet E. Bishop Panron 1828" across the bottom. “Panron” refers to Panton, Vermont, where Bishop was born. She later came to Saint Paul in 1847, where she started Minnesota’s first public school.
