Description: BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION: Franey is a native of Wisconsin and graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1919. He later attended the University of Minnesota from 1922 to 1923. Franey worked for the Minneapolis Tribune, Times, and Star and wrote an outdoors column in the 1930s and '40s. SUBJECTS DISCUSSED: His background; writing the outdoor column; the Izaak Walton League; Richard Dorer; establishing the Richard J. Dorer Memorial Hardwood Forest. COMMENTS ON INTERVIEW: Mr. Franey was in ill health at the time of the interview.
