BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION: Koreen Phelps grew up in South Minneapolis and graduated from Robbinsdale High School in 1966. At the age of nineteen, she formed the group FREE (Freedom of Repression of Erotic Expression). SUBJECTS DISCUSSED: Ms. Phelps tells of her troubled teen years, being committed to a mental institution and running away to San Francisco. Phelps discusses the founding of FREE, describes their meetings and activities. She talks of the politics of the gay community in the Twin Cities in conjunction with the Democratic and Socialist political parties and her personal involvement with the Socialist Workers Party. |
