Description: Blued steel scabbard for a United States Army Officer's Model 1850 sword made by the Ames Manufacturing Company in Chicopee, Massachusetts. The scabbard was reportedly owned by Colonel William Colvill of the 1st Minnesota Volunteer Infantry Regiment. Colvill became the fifth and final colonel of the regiment on May 6, 1863 and was wounded several times during the Civil War, three times at Gettysburg on July 2, 1863, which left him partially crippled for the rest of his life.
