Description: Baptismal gown used by the family of Captain Gates A. Johnson, Jr. during the Civil War. The sheer cotton gown has hand-made eyelet lace sleeves, a tucked skirt and drawstrings at the ruffled neckline. The fitted bodice's scoop neck has an embroidered edge and features diagonal panels of handmade eyelet lace; the waistband is made of machine-made eyelet lace.
