Description BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION: Hansen is a native of Bridgeport, Connecticut and attended Antioch University, where he received his B.A. in biology and his M.A. in natural resources management. Hansen first worked with the Izaak Walton League in 1982 as part time acid rain project coordinator. In 1984 he moved to Minneapolis to open the IWL Upper Mississippi Regional Office. He also holds the position of information consultant on acid rain for the Canadian government's Department of the Environment. Hansen is the author of the IWL report "Acid Rain and Waterfowl: The Case for Concern in North America". SUBJECTS DISCUSSED: How he became involved in the Izaak Walton League; how IWL acid rain study developed; U.S. government studies on acid rain; Canadian vs. U.S. studies; acid rain as a regional issue; IWL study and effect of acid rain on black ducks and seasonal wetlands; next step in the control of acid rain; effect of Canadian government on U.S. policy; options for industry to reduce acid rain; the Upper Mississippi and barge traffic; Army Corps of Engineers relationship with environmental groups; 1985 farm act; and the IWL and the Boundary Waters.
