Titles: Handmade United States flag (Supplied title)

Description: Large United States flag with thirty-six (36) stars made by the ladies of the Republican Club in Read's Landing, Minnesota. The village had no flag, and in order to display their support for the Union during the Civil War, the ladies of the Republican Club bought the fabric and made this flag. The ladies used two shades of red cloth because there was not enough of one shade in the town to complete the nearly 20 x 30 foot flag. The flag originally hung on a 110 foot flag pole. The flag later traveled around Minnesota, until it was again hung at Read's Landing in 1914. In 1915 the Read's Landing Association donated the flag.
