Description: United States Army cavalry enlisted soldier's dress uniform worn by Private Oscar V. Challander of the 12th Cavalry, Company H. The navy blue wool uniform consists of a jacket and trousers. The gold trimmed jacket (.A) is draped with a gold aiguillette, has gilt brass General Service buttons and a standing band collar with gilt brass crossed sabers pins at either side with "12" and "H" in the angles. The trousers (.B) have a four-button fly closure with top hook-and-eye catch, a lace placket at the back waist, and back pockets and belt loops that are trimmed with gold braid.

Notes

  • The 12th Cavalry Regiment was organized in 1901 in Texas. It was sent in to the Philippines 1903-1905, and then served garrison duty in Georgia before returning to the Philipines 1909-1911. The regiment was one of several units which patrolled the Mexican border before, during, and after World War I.
