He is a 1985 graduate of the Board of Engineers for Rivers and Harbors, Planning Associates Program. At the time of the interview he was a supervisory biologist in the St. Paul District Army Corps of Engineers environmental resources branch. SUBJECTS DISCUSSED: Changes in the Army Corps of Engineers; overall plans for the Mississippi River; how they integrate the various plans; maintaining/responsibility for habitat; private exclusive use; issues with shoreline management plan; private boat usage; changes in water control; goal of water control; the Corps public image; and focus on projects for the Corps such as dredging and Weaver Bottoms.
