It reads, in part, "RECEIVABLE FOR POSTAGE STAMPS / AT ANY US POST OFFICE" and "Exchangeable for United States Notes / by any Assistant Treasurer / or designated U.S. Depositary / in sums not less than / FIVE DOLLARS". A portrait of Thomas Jefferson is repeated five times on the front of the note.
