Description: Pair of .46 caliber back-action percussion lock dueling pistols (A and B) are in a black leather case (C) with a brass plate engraved "'A token of regard'/ CALHOUN M. DERINGER/ TO/ HON. ALEX. RAMSAY [sic]". The case has a recessed folding brass handle and a French form-fit interior lined with very dark red [this is a National Bureau of Standards color] velvet. Pistols have walnut stocks, single-set triggers and octagonal barrels that are round at the muzzle. The browned barrels have a wavy random pattern of silver lines, silver front sights, and case-hardened patent breeches. Each pistol has a lockplate and breech stamped "DERINGER/ PHILADELa", a wrist escutcheon marked "CALHOUN M. DERINGER/ TO/ HON. ALEX. RAMSAY [sic]", a "K" on the underside of the barrel and breech, and "P" on the side of the breech. Accessories include a bullet mold (D), a screwdriver with a rosewood handle (E), nipple wrench and vent pick combination (F), fluted brass powder flask (G), brass cleaning rod (H), a key (I) for the case, and a tin powder measure (J). Given to Alexander Ramsey, Governor of Minnesota.
