Description: Black brass binocular field glasses with a center pole and a cogged wheel. Wheel focuses glasses by adjusting the distance between the lenses at each end of the two eyepieces. A yellow iridescent film has either migrated from the sides or lifted from the glass. The binoculars belonged to a Artillery Sergeant John W. Jones of the 7th Minnesota Regiment, Company E, who was stationed at Fort Ridgley, Minnesota, during the 1862 U.S.-Dakota War.
