Description: Wooden box with velvet padding and leather carry straps containing a large brass solar compass and parts used in the business of surveying. The compass was used in Minnesota by Theodore Barrett in the 1860s. Manufactured in Troy, New York by W. and L. E. Gurley, manufacturers of equipment for civil engineers and surveyors.
