Titles: German military field telephone (Supplied title)
Description: German military field telephone inside an oak case with a leather shoulder strap. The receiver is made of various metals with a leather-covered handle and cushion for the ear piece. A leather-covered "horn" folds down to funnel the voice into the transmission aperture. A switch on the handle is squeezed when the user wishes to speak. This switch has "BEIM HOREN / LOSLASSEN" stamped upon it. A second listening apparatus is on its own cord and has a green felt cushion for the ear. Also contained in the case are circuits enabling the user to talk on any of four different lines so it functions also as a sort of simple switchboard. The case opens by having the top fold up and the front fold out flat. Pasted to the underside of the top is a schematic diagram of the switchboard wiring, and the inside of the front has metal tags attached that feature the alphabet, including German names associated with each letter (to be used for clear enunciation of letters over the phone); maker's label marked "VEREINIGT / TELEPHONE-U TELEGRAPHENFABRIKS / CZEIJA NISSL & CO. WIEN"; and the number "51437".
