Description: BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION: Proescholdt is a native of Iowa, and graduated from Iowa State University in 1977 with degrees in history and biology. As a student, he guided canoe trips in the Boundary Waters and became interested in the various legislative bills proposed during the 1970s concerning the BWCA. He worked for the Iowa Public Interest Research Group (IPIRG) and became involved with the lobbying efforts of the Friends of the Boundary Waters Wilderness. In 1981 he joined the staff of the Minnesota chapter of the National Audubon Society. He became executive director of the Friends of the Boundary Waters Wilderness in 1985.
